Chap battle hard but it is all in vain

The Indian summer of the previous week had been replaced by Storm Brian for the trip to Leeds Adel. With the rain sheeting down and the wind blowing the changing rooms was a difficult place to leave prior to push back.
There was the usual flurry of team changes. Returning in goal was Charlie Chocolate and, in his first Chap start, Dan Dare was upfront. Boss Hogg returned following recovery from injury. Missing were ‘The Watcher on the Wall’ Crumpy, Big Foot and Gina G.
The game started at a brisk pace and it was quickly apparent that Adel was a well organised, experienced team. Chap though were confident in possession and played some nice hockey in the opening period. Storm Brian had eased off a little and both teams were enjoying the pace of the wet pitch and attacking quickly. It was only a matter of time before something gave. Unfortunately it was to be the Chap defence. Adel moved the ball confidently down their right before playing the ball across goal. Bambi and Shep were both unable to cut out the cross leaving an Adel forward, unmarked at the back post, to shoot past Chocolate in goal.
Adel were then to have a period of dominance and gained a short corner from which Iceburg’s game was to be ended prematurely. Running superbly to the attacker, Iceburg blocked the shot only for the ball to ricochet up into his face. Staying face down on the astro his team mates looked on in trepidation at their injured colleague. It was with small relief that moments later it became apparent that Iceburg was in fact just taking time out to transform himself into the elephant man. More importantly, he’d left the team having to defend another short corner a man down. This fortunately was to pass uneventfully to allow Fitbit to enter the fray.
The half continued to be competitive. Both teams had excellent chances to score, Chap seeing several short corner routines thwarted by the Adel keeper. Tomahawk Bandit also had a trademark tomahawk well saved by the keeper. At the other end Chocolate made some magnificent stops to keep Adel at 1 goal. Chuckle#2 was enjoying the competitive nature of the game and was doing an excellent job of breaking down the Adel midfield with some sharp tackling as well as being an all round nuisance, so that at half time the score remained 1-0.
Adel were out of the blocks quickly in the second half and Chap were to concede early when a forward found himself in space in the middle of the D to pick his shot. Undeterred Chap continued to be competitive. Homer was playing some excellent balls down the right wing that Dan Dare was picking up and launching attacks. Again they had chance from short corners but the keeper again was solid to any shots thrown at him. Chap started to become a little frustrated and Adel’s 3rd goal only added to this. From a short corner the Adel forward struck the ball past Chocolate, having not only appeared to kick it but also to have not allowed the ball to leave the D from injection.
Still this Chap team did not throw in the towel. The game remained end to end until the final two minutes when Chap was to get a deserved consolation goal. Once again the chance came from a short corner. Bambi hit a crashing shot that once again the keeper ‘logged’to keep out. A defender was able to half clear but only to Tomahawk Bandit in the mid-right D. Staying composed Tomahawk lifted the ball over the keeper into the net for his 3rd league goal this season.
After match voting was very interesting. Not for the MOM starblazer that went to the deserving Charlie Chocolate. No, as the DOD Hot Dog was counted Bambi, having left both his bag and some of the new team shirts pitchside, looked on in astonishment as vote after vote went to Boss Hogg for numerous very small insignificant incidents.
