Chap Have to Fight to Maintain Unbeaten Run

Following on from the previous week’s postponement, Men’s 3s were keen to continue their winning sequence against the basement club. It was obvious during warm-up, however, that this team were stronger than their league position suggested.
Boss Hogg had returned to the fold and was starting his first game for a couple of weeks as was Von Ryan. Bigfoot and Bambi were missing from the previous game.
Chap started strongly and took the game to their opponents, trying to find weakness on the flanks. Bradford for their part were resolute and defended these forays with little trouble. Frustration started to set in for Chap and with this frustration came poor decision making. Their usual passing game gave way to a game of constant ‘head down running at defenders’ hockey that nearly always end in failure. Chap did make a few half opportunities in the first half. These mainly came from wide areas but the shots from the top of the D from Tomahawk Bandit, Gigolo and Iceburg were comfortably dealt with by the Bradford keeper.
The game by was no means all Chap. Bradford’s midfield were also making some scrappy chances for the Bradford forward line but Shep, Moonpig and Boss Hogg were cutting these out at source to leave keeper Bowring largely untroubled. This midfield toing and froing continued right up to halftime where the score remained 0-0.
The second half continued in much the same vain as the first. Chap appeared a little shell shocked and were guilty of static and panicky play. At times though they did put together some neat passing moves, particularly down the left with Von Ryan and Mad Max. Despite this the final ball was still being forced and the Bradford defence were still largely untroubled.
And then disaster struck, as Bradford took the lead from an innocuous situation. This time it was the defence who went into panicky mode and a poor clearance was returned back into the D where the Bradford forward finished off a soft goal.
Bradford sensed blood and this was how Chap got back into the game. Bradford were committing players forward and committed a foul at the top of the Chap D. Hutch pounced on the ball and took an immediate free hit straight to Gigolo at the half way line. Gigolo turned and found himself one on one with the Gruffalo (aka Bradford centre back). Gigolo’s pace was too much for the Gruffalo and he bypassed him down the left before advancing onto the keeper. Once in the D Gigolo fired a smart shot into the bottom right corner to bring the scores level.
Disappointed to have conceded late in the game, Bradford continued to throw people forward. This once again allowed a Chap breakaway. This time Iceburg carried the ball right before playing the ball into Gigolo. Gigolo once again had a lot to do but a turn of pace gained him plenty of time in the D to fire a lifted shot into the right of the net for 2-1.
Chap were now buoyant (and perhaps naïve) and started chasing a third in the dying minutes. At times they rocked the Bradford defence but couldn’t quite find a finishing touch to finish the game. They then gave away the ball in the final third and Bradford broke quickly. This was only stopped by conceding a free hit at the top of the D. Bradford took this and Fitbit was shielding the young Bradford player well to prevent him coming onto his strong stick. The player however was more than confident on the reverse and fired a well struck Tomahawk into the bottom corner of the net to break Chap hearts and earn a draw.
The after match voting saw Gigolo voted MOM starblazer for a consecutive game. The DOD Hot Dog went to Hutch for mixing his left and right wings up in the pre-match chat, allowing Shep to get away scott-free for a green card for hitting the ball away.
