Chap run riot.

For some of us Saturday afternoons in our youth revolved around the TV sports programme 'Grandstand' (youngsters ask your parents). One of the many highlights was the Vide-printer which gave the latest football scores. When a team scored a lot of goals the number was put in words after the numerical figure- for example 7 (SEVEN). If there is a Yorkshire Hockey League vide-printer somewhere it would hopefully have read - Chapeltown 2s 14 (FOURTEEN). That's because Monger's magic men went goal crazy this week against usual tough opponents Slazengers. With the confidence of the previous week's 6-0 win Chap started like a train with ladies man Josh Rowley scoring with a fantastic strike into the bottom corner. Unfortunately your commentator's memory is not what is was and the following seven goals in the first half were a bit of a blur. A vague recollection of some goals from Tim, Dave and Rob Ramsay. Anyway a sparkling performance saw the game 8 (EIGHT) - 0 to Chap at half-time. A particular mention for young Harry France whose play in midfield was the catalyst for many of the goals. The second half started in the same vein with more goals being added in quick succession. Somewhat surprisingly though semi-pro golfer Dave 'Shandy' Hadwick, despite his undoubted skill, was not amongst the scorers. Not so surprising was the sight of Captain Monger berating an umpire. This time it was Chap umpire Paul Morrell in the firing line following a frank exchange of views. Another surprise was the sight of usual 'solid at the back' defender Lee Robinson making a foray into the D. His shot was deflected into the net by the Slazengers defender thus giving Lee his first goal since his return to Chap. However the dubious goals panel will be taking a look at the replays sometime this week as it was clearly an own goal. More goals were added and the final score was a sensational 14 (FOURTEEN) - 0 to Chapeltown. Despite the flurry of goals none came from Dave Hadwick who currently stands at played 2 scored 0 (NIL). The list of goal scorers was as follows - Josh 4, Tim 3, Dave P 3, Rob Ramsay 2, Lee / O.G and Phil. Back at the ranch it was more bad news for Shandy as his favourite of jacket potatoes was not on the menu and the chicken curry was far too spicy for his delicate palette. Man of the match went to Josh Rowley for his super four goals and all round good play. Dick of the day was of course Harry France for his dereliction of duty surround team equipment. Next up for the 2s is a trip to historic Lincoln to play Lindum HC.
