Chapletown 2s serve up a feast of goals

Don’t be fooled into thinking that the Men’s second team were playing tennis this week. The result of this week’s match was indeed 15-0 against a depleted Hull University team. The students arrived with only 10 players and no umpire. With no-one able to step in to umpire they started the game with only 9 players. With this in mind the ruthless 2s tasted blood. Despite this enthusiasm an early goal did not arrive as Hull Uni showed some good defence and fine goalkeeping to keep out the early pressure from Chap. The deadlock was finally broken as Dave Hadwick fired home into the bottom corner. This goal opened the floodgates as more well worked goals followed in quick succession. One such goal illustrated youngster Josh Rowley’s own ruthless side as he sped towards goal to tap in from an inch Matt Bradshaw’s goal bound shot. This was very much reminiscent of old school Chapeltown goal getter Paul Sanderson. With Chap firmly on top the first half ended at 6-0 to the maroon platoon. A change of tactics from Hull Uni saw them employ a ‘kicking back’ in the second half and their impressive keeper moved to an outfield role. More goals followed though early in the second half and the 2’s were soon 8-0 up. Despite Chap’s dominance this didn’t stop skipper Rob Monger from showing his usual disdain he has for the umpiring fraternity. This time some back-chat saw him sent from the field for a short period. Despite this minor setback Chap continued to press and added further goals. As the kicking back was being employed by Hull Uni this resulted in Chap changing their tactics at short corners to one of brut force instead of their usual intricate set pieces. The man for the job was none other than Scottish bandana wearing pirate look-a-like Jimmy Davidson. His power and general Scottishness was too much for the Hull Uni kicking back as he scored four blistering goals from four short corners. With the game sewn up Captain Rob saw his chance for glory as he made a late substitution and placed himself in an unfamiliar centre forward position. A failed short corner attempt didn’t deter the skipper and he was soon at hand to slot home from close range following a mazy dribble from Dave Palmer. This led to an initial exuberant celebration which was soon curtailed when Rob realised the score was now 14-0. A final goal was added by Phil Foster to make the game 15-0 at the final whistle. Despite the perennial dribbling showers at Hinde House the lads were in jubilant mood back at the Ranch. Man of the match went to Lee Robinson for some ‘solid at the back’ style defending. DOTD went to skipper Rob Monger for his green card and over zealous goal celebration. The 2s are back in action next week away at Hull HC.
